A roof is something we all need to keep our homes safe from the outdoor elements. Your roof needs to be strong and solid in order to prevent leaks, water damage, and a whole host of other issues. If your roof is no longer sound or is aging, then a roof replacement is necessary to continue a solid form of protection. However, it can be difficult to know when to replace your roof for many people. Here are a few red flags you need to watch out for when it comes to roof replacement:
- The age of your roof. A typical shingled roof will last anywhere from 10-20 years, depending on the maintenance and weather in your area. If your roof has reached it’s age limit, it’s better to complete a roof replacement before there are issues.
- Cracked, peeling or damaged shingles. If your shingles are rolling, cracked, looking a little bare or you are missing shingles, a roof replacement is in your future.
- Moss or plant life sprouting on your roof. Moss and other plants are a warning sign that there is moisture present, which it shouldn’t be on a healthy roof.
- Interior issues. By looking into your attic space, you might be able to see any signs of light shining through or any streaks from water damage on the underside of the roof. If you see these issues, look for a roofing contractor immediately.
