Here are a few ways to find out if your residential roofing has been damaged by the wind.
- Check downstream. When your roofing is damaged by wind, it isn’t always obvious. A great way to check both the age and condition of your roof is to check the granules of your shingles. When shingles are damaged or showing their age, you will start to see lost granules, so check downstream in your gutters and outputs.
- Look for missing shingles. Obvious signs of wind include missing shingles, but sometimes roofs are not checked on all sides. Be sure to check the entirety of your roof after wind storms whenever possible to spot the missing shingles.
- Check the flashing. The flashing is the metal pieces that go under your roof and also secure it to the structure, such as near the gutters, chimney, etc. These components can be rattled loose by the wind and cause leaks.
